Cougs came to the Rose Bowl and just got whipped. Bruins dominated on the ground with HB Geremy Foster rushing for 134yds and a score. The story would be freshman HB Morris Hayden who got all his work in the 4th quarter and blew up for 159 yds and 2 scores, UCLA's passing game was not needed much but was still very efficient, QB Micheal Jackson went 9-15, 126yds and 2tds. Defensively, UCLA was not as dominate as the score would suggest but turnovers would be the story as Wazzu committed 3 all in the redzone, and that was just the turnovers the Bruins could get, Wazzu turned to an option game midway and the ball was eveywhere, freshman SS Manuel Smith had a day in his early career posting 6 tackles, 3 tfl, 2 sacks, and 2 ff for POTG honors. The Bruins sit the next two weeks at home with classes beginning for the new quarter, look for Coach Maij to go back to fundamentals with the time off before preparing for a pesky Oregon State team Week 7.

Trojans Hold Off Beavers to Earn 49-39 Win Very frustrating game to compound a very frustrating night. Should have known it was going to be bad when it took me 15 minutes to upload my recruiting due to Charter doing something to their service and had me throttled back to 0.03 Mbps on upload instead of the normal 3.45 Mbps. After the first two plays from Oregon State lead to loses the Beavers threw a 7 yard crossing route on 3rd and 18. After breaking 3 tackles the Beaver WR walked into the endzone for the early 7-0 lead. The Trojans comeback and marched down the field and were looking to tie the game when the Beavers came with the fastest blitz I have every seen and hit my QB as he was passing. But instead of falling to the ground the ball bounced off the back of a Trojan lineman only to be caught by a Beaver LB who then raced 80 yards for the TD and a 14-0 lead. After cutting the lead to 14-7 the Beavers struck again on a screen pass and increased their lead to 21-7. But the Trojans swung momentum back in their favor when the Trojan QB caught the Beavers in a Corner blitz and connected with his WR on a 80 yard TD strike. The Trojans finally got a couple of stops on defense and the Trojans converted them into points and took 35-21 lead going into the half. The Beavers scored 10 points in the 3rd Qtr to pull within 35-31 but the Trojans outscored the Beavers 14-8 in the 4th Qtr to escape with a 49-39 victory.
LSU Bounces back after Last Home Game Meltdown
Gators Win 3OT Thriller Over Rival TennesseeFinal Score 44-38 After beating #8 USC, the Florida Gators returned home to host another top 10 opponent and also start SEC play for this season. The #10 Volunteers are the reigning SEC East champs so this would be a key game if Coach HAL and the Gators had any hope of winning the SEC this season. Florida lacked offensive consistency but they had the big play working for them. The Gators took the lead behind a 49 yard pass play to WR Brandon Murphy. This was only the beginning of a great game for Murphy. Tennessee responded quickly though. They took a short drive down the field culminating in a 33 yard run by RB Herbert Davis. This made it 7-7 after the 1st quarter. Florida started to pull away in the 2nd quarter. Murphy would pull in his 2nd TD pass of the game early in the quarter. Then Tennessee would throw a quick INT on their next possession giving Florida a short field. While the passing game had been working, Coach HAL wanted to get the running game working as well. That was unsuccessful and the Gators had to settle for a FG and a 17-7 lead. This would go into halftime as both defenses started to step up. Tennessee would take control of the 2nd half behind great defense and a solid running game. They would close it to 17-14 late in the 3rd after a long drive capped off by another Herbert Davis TD run. Florida was really struggling at this point but they got a break when RB Lance Pitts would take a shotgun sweep and go 78 yards for a TD to make it 24-14. Herbert Davis responded quickly though as his first touch on their next possession went 76 yards to bring it back to 24-21. It was a tough fight for the rest of the quarter but Tennessee would end up kicking a FG with 5 seconds remaining to tie it at 24-24. It would go to Overtime. Florida would get the ball first and would try to run the ball but it just wasn't working. Coach HAL had started to notice that the Vols were consistently bringing pressure on 3rd and long so the Gators called their 1st screen play of the game. It worked perfectly as Tennessee brought pressure and Lance Pitts was able to take it 24 yards for a TD and the lead in OT. However, just like the last time Florida scored, Tennessee responded immediately as Herbert Davis took the first play in for yet another TD. Things weren't as easy for the Vols in 2OT. They tried running the ball but it just wasn't working. However, on 3rd down, they found FB Mike Huggins in the flat. After missing a tackle, he would take it in for a 19 yard TD pass. This time it was Florida's turn to respond quickly. On their 1st play, QB Eric Berry would connect with Brandon Murphy again for a TD to move the game into 3OT. On Florida's 2nd play of this possession, Berry would throw a perfect pass and Murphy would bring in his 4th TD of the game. However, Florida would be unsuccessful on the 2 point conversion. Tennessee would stick the ground game and would get down to the 5 yard line but the Florida defense would step up and tackle Herbert Davis short on a 4th down run attempt to clinch the victory at 44-38.
We kicked a lot of FG's in this one but come out on top.
