Frosh Lead Huskies over #9 Central Michigan

    NIU 48
    CMU 21

The Huskies defeated #9 CMU at home behind an aggressive defense and big plays by freshman. Freshman RB Mike McKinney, thrust into the lineup when Antoine Kirkland was injured for the year, led the team with two TDs and 137 yards rushing on 16 carries including a 96 yard rush. CB Fred Sparks returned an interception for a TD. And the defense sacked R. Radcliff nine times.

The Huskies are perfect against MAC opponents in the two years since Coach Jerry Bumpers took over.

"Hot dang! Those youngsters were flying all over hell's half acre making plays, wreaking havoc and distributing pain and anguish to those fancy pants Chippewas! That's my kind of ball playment!" Coach Bumpers said after the game. "A lot of our freshman have been thrust into the starting lineup, and I'm not gonna to fib, they mostly have been overmatched, but today was the day those doggone little pups broke their cherry and transmogrified into mean ole nasty full grown adult mongrels. I'm so proud, I could spit!"

    Players of the game:
    NIU
QB Deron Brown 19-26, 249 Yds passing, TD, 8 carries, 33 yrds ,TD.
OLB Donald Waller, 6 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 PD.

    Fireworks in Lubbock
Saturday was the rivalry game between the Baylor Bears and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The Bears would come out of the gates hot with and start a fire taking the lead 19-0. The Red Raider fans watched in horror as the Bears continued to pour on the offense play after play. The turnover bug infected the Red Raiders and after a big hit in the first quarter the Red Raiders starting QB was out for the game.
The Red Raiders trailed 29-14 at the halftime mark.
The fair weather fans in attendance showed their colors and began to pour out of the stadium as ugly second half seemed iminent.
The second half started the same as the first. Plagued with turnovers the Bears took a 36-24 lead going into the final quarter.
Then something amazing happened as the Red Raider team actually showed up for the fourth quarter. The defense made crucial stops and the offense would put up 22 points in the fourth to steal a victory from the Bears 46-43.
Coach Sabo had this to say after the game
"Im not really sure what to say. Our team was beaten on for 3 quarters by a talented Baylor team. I pulled my guys aside for a final time in the fourth and told them that they could either keep playing like they had been and we could get ran out of our home or we could suck it up and play Texas Tech football. The kids battled back and we escaped with a win."

Make that 6 in a Row!
ECU Look Unstoppable in CUSA as they Get By Tulane 27-17
    [IMG]
ECU came into this one riding a 5 game win streak, and with their record at 7-2, they looked to push towards that 6th conference win in a row and guarantee their place atop the CUSA East standings. They were on the road this week facing a Tulane team from the West side of the standings, who were looking to pull off the upset in front of their home crowd in New Orleans. ECU were slow out of the gates in this one, and some have argued that it was due to the rumors swirling around that this would be Coach Zikry's last year with the program. The Coach has failed to comment on these allegations, saying that he will not talk about next year until the bowl season, but the bookies are certainly banking on this being Zikry's last year with the Pirates. The offense was stopped cold for about a quarter and a half in this one, as Tulane rushed to a 14-0 lead thanks to their running backs, who were just able to break through at will early in this one. Derrick Strozier had a 59 yard touchdown run and Orleans Darkwa had a 32 yarder himself, and with 5:54 left in the half ECU faced their biggest deficit since week 4 against Virginia Tech as they were down 14. This was when Brad Wornick took it upon himself to get his team right back in it, as they drove down the field completing 5 passes in a row before hitting his target, wide receiver Torian Richardson, on a 12 yard strike to half the deficit to 7 on a drive that took a grand total of 36 seconds. 10 seconds after that, ECU were tied, as Tulane's first play from scrimmage resulted in a fumble, which was scooped up by defensive end Lee Pegues who took it back 13 yards, and all of a sudden ECU were tied and the home crowd were stunned. Both teams would add field goals late in the quarter, leaving the score tied 17-17 at halftime.
In the second half the ECU defense played the kind of football their coach has been accustomed to seeing, sacking the quarterback 5 times (2 by middle linebacker Justin Jones, who now holds the school record for sacks in a season with 17), intercepting it once, and causing 2 more fumbles all accumulating to Tulane being kept off the scoreboard for the entire 2nd half. ECU would take their first lead of the game with 1:24 left in the 3rd as Brad Wornick found Reese Wiggins for a 6 yard score, before Robbie Miller would hit a 25 yard field goal with 4:50 left in the game to stretch the ECU lead to 10, a lead that would never be in jeopardy as the game ended with ECU coming away with the 27-17 victory. Next week the ECU Pirates 8-2 (6-0) face off against CUSA East foes, as they take on Marshall 5-3 (2-2) in a game where Brad Wornick can set the school record for passing yards in a season if he can throw for 290 yards.
    ECU Pirates Players Stats:
QB Brad Wornick: 30-50, 360 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
HB Matt Brown: 17 rushing attempts, 69 yards
WR Reese Wiggins: 8 catches, 100 yards, 1 TD
WR Lamar Ivey: 6 catches, 100 yards
WR Carter Gagnon: 7 catches, 91 yards
ROLB Lamar McLendon: 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles.
MLB Justin Jones: 8 tackles, 2 sacks.

MLB Justin Jones better be in the running for some defensive awards this year...Leads the country in tackles by a wide margin, and leads the nation in sacks too.

SMU wins huge rivalry despite sloppy play
    41-35
For the 4th week in a row SMU has managed to pull out a victory by 5 or less points. Coach Texasfight said "i cant take many ore of those." The mustangs got out to an ealy lead on the OWls but turnovers and bad defense let rice take the lead late and almost win it. Again Kaiser had to lead the stangs on a drive with less than a min left to win. This team had looked great both sides of the ball they just have to take care of the ball an limit big plays. But a win is a win no matter how you pull it off. Rice threw for nearly 300 yards and had no turnovers, any time a defese gives p numbers like that it will be tough to win without a doubt. This week SMU dominated T.o.p. winning by ovr 10 minuets. This team has alot we can build on and if we figure it out we can be special.
In the fourth quarter rice score 2 points that SMU just gave to them. I woul say the player off the game today was my QB Kaiser he was able to throw for 250 yards and run for 70, Ill have no shot off wining the title if we keep turning it over like we did today, we just cant do it. rice is on eof the worst teams in the conference and we were lucky to escape with the win, things around here have t change if we expect to go 10-2.

UCLA Pulls Away from Oregon, in the Rain Soaked Rose Bowl, 38-16

Oregon received the ball and proceeded to march down the field, however the Bruin's defense stepped up when it needed to, and held the Ducks to a field goal. At the end of the first quarter that would be the only score recorded by either team. However it didn't take long for UCLA to score, on a 6 yard TD run by running back Jonathan Franklin, 4 seconds into the 2nd quarter, it would be the first of three touchdowns on the day scored by Franklin.

Oregon responded with a 52 yard touchdown run by running back L. Seastrunk, who ran into a pile of Bruins defenders, and came out the other side, for the score. Oregon would add two field goals, and UCLA would respond with one before the half, to make it a 16-10 game at halftime.

For the Ducks that would be all she wrote, as UCLA came out and scored 28 unanswered points, behind a great defensive effort which saw two interceptions to stop key drives.

Kevin Prince was 20 of 30 for 263 yards 1 TD, and 2 INTs, also backup QB, Isaac Thomas came in, in mop up duty and thre one pass for 30 yards, that resulted in a touchdown

As mentioned above Franklin rushed for 82 yards on 17 carries, with 3 TDs, he also caught a 43 yard touchdown pass.

The Bruins were led in receiving this game by Tight End Morrell Presley, who had 8 catches for 104 yards.

    Oregon/UCLA
    Score 16/38
    First Downs 7/15
    Total Offesnse 197/384
    3rd Down 2-14/7-11

    UTEP 23 - Tulsa 21

Miners run away with a close one

UTEP was able to keep control the game throughout with great clock control and a running game that wouldn't be stopped. UTEP (5-5, 3-3) was able to hand Tulsa (6-4, 3-4) yet another loss on the season, all by conference opponents. UTEP was able to run the ball effectively (T.O.P. 20:31mins to 7:29mins in favor of UTEP) and kept a very talented Tulsa offense on the sideline waiting for a chance to score. Tulsa made some great plays but just had trouble stringing together drives when it counted.

Mississippi State Demolishes Syracuse, Wins 56-10

This one wasn't even close folks. MSU hosted Big East Syracuse and showed them how things are done in the SEC with a smashmouth gameplan that bordered on ridiculous at times. QB Tyler Russell threw for only 163 yards and 2 TD's, but the nation's previous top passer didn't need to do much. The Bulldog's RB's accumulated for 265 yards of rushing, with Shawne Alston being responsible for 165 of those yards and 3 TD's. The defense was relentless and opportunistic, forcing two fumbles including one that was returned 71 yards for a TD. After the first drive of the 3rd quarter, the reserves went in for MSU. However, the punishment did not end, as backup RB's Montrell Connor and Vick Ballard continued to bruise and batter the Syracuse 1st stringers. "This was a statement game," said coach nrg_qbz. "We want people to see that we can run the ball and play a physical game. All you hear about is our aerial attack, but people forget that we have one of the best rushing game in the nation."

At this point, MSU can only hope that LSU falters. The only loss delivered to the Bulldogs was by LSU, who is currently #2 in the nation. "All we can do is focus on the games at hand," said Alston. "We can't be worrying about things that are out of our control."

Bulls Roll On, Pound #21 Rutgers
USF continues to be possible BCS busters as they keep knocking off opponents week in and week out. Star QB BJ Daniels had another big game, going 12-21 through the air for 166 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT plus rushing for just under 200 yards on just 10 carries with 4 TDs. Sterling Griffin, the Sr WR, had a good game catching 5 balls for 90 yards and a TD. In addition to the offensive stars, the defense played their second straight solid game allowing just 17 points and the starters only allowed 10. There won't be many teams that can hold USF under 17, so as long as the D can continue their recent play, look for the Bulls to run the table.

The Falcons came to play in their annual rivalry with Army, getting the shutout and winning their 2nd game in a row. With this win they also bring home the Commander-in-Chief trophy for the first time since 2002!
The game started slow as neither team was able to score in the first quarter. However, in the 2nd quarter Air Force finally started to put it together scoring 2 touchdowns.
In the 2nd half the Falcons continued their push scoring a touchdown in the 3rd and 4th quarters and putting the Black Knights away once and for all.

Cavaliers Keep Rolling, Beat BYU to Move to 10-0 on the Season

    Virginia 30 vs. BYU 6

Passing Game Struggles, Heisman Hopeful Mack Carries Team

The Virginia Cavaliers added yet another win to their 2012 campaign after beating BYU by 24 points. "Our passing game has been iffy for quite some time," said Coach E "I am exploring a change at the quarterback position, you may see Ross Metheny starting at QB next week." With that being said Torrey Mack, 2nd on the Heisman list before this week, carried the team on his back yet again.

Mack carried the ball 23 times for 132 yards and 3 TD. Mack now leads the NCAA in both rushing yards, 1529 and rushing TD with 25.

The Cavalier defense stepped up big yet again and remains to be one of the best defenses in the nation. The Virginia D surrendered only 6 points and less than 150 yards of total offense. They recorded 5 sacks and 2 interceptions. DT Will Hill is tied for 2nd in the nation with 11 sacks.

The Cavaliers already have the ACC Coastal division locked up and are now #5 in the country, but they face two tough battles should they wish to keep their national title hopes alive. This week they travel to Atlanta to take on the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech and their always dangerous offseason. Should Virginia stay undefeated the next two games, it could end up being a battle of two undefeated teams, both ranked in the top 5 in the ACC Title Game, which could impact the national championship game.
