    Expectations For The New Campaign

With only one friendly in the books so far the team looks drilled in it's style of play even if many positions are still up for grabs. With only a hard fought narrow win over Galatasary in the books anything can happen this year.
The goal ultimately as with any team is promotion and a goal that this club feels it can do with it's suffocating midfield. The middle of the park is the strength of the club and this strength is one they hope will propel them to Champions League and promotion to the Premier League.

Zenit Looking To Make A Statement In Matchweek 1
Zenit will face too top contenders for promotion in it's first week. Feeling slightly left out of the mix after a pre-season victory over Galatasary they will look to repeat the feat and take down Hamburg as well. Manager Dylema was quoted as saying, "We relish the opportunity to start out with two high caliber clubs. We're aiming for 6 points of course but any thing we can get out of this week will do." This early test could launch this Zenit side firmly in contention for the promotion spots or they could be fighting an up hill battle the rest of the way.

    Zenit Split Tough Opening Week
The Lightblues took on two of the top clubs in the pre season and came away with a solid 3 points after two tightly contested matches. They opened up with a battle with Hamburg and opened there account in the 3rd minute of the season and again the 88th as Hamburg was baring down on goal and an equalizer almost looked certain to come. The reverse was the case for the St. Petersburg side when they faced Galatasaray as an early penalty threw the thousands of fans in blue and white in full voice in protest of what apperaed to be a soft penalty. The Lightblues would struggle a bit to find there footing but with the backing of their home fans an the introduction of Danko "Mad Dog" Lazovich they had a spark for the dying minutes of the match. Despite surviving a threat on their own goal they had there chances and Lazovich was at the center of many of them distributing from the center of mid field or getting into the box only to try and get cute with his shot and scuff it to the keeper.
All in all not a bad start to the season as 3 points out of two highly touted teams is nothing to scoff at and will give the club confidence going forward and still with the hope of a TCL bid after week 3.

Week 2 Preview: Lightblues Face A Crucial Week
With the champions league qualification window quickly closing Zenit face two teams that it will be in a battle with for those spots. Facing Benfica and Leverkusen who sit on either side of them in the table. Zenit boss Dylema was quoted as saying "We respect both teams but there is no fear. These will be tough games but if we play are style and play to are potential I think we can have a good week." A good week may be needed, if they were to lose both they could be fighting an uphill battle in week 3 to get into the CL.

Week 2 Mid-Week: Hard Fought Point
The Lightblues battled back from an early goal by Benfica to secure a point where some thought 3 was the fairer result. They say possession is 9/10 of the law and playing those odds those critics saying 3 points wasn't good enough may just be right. The Lightblues made 3 substitutions in all and after they possessed the ball brilliantly in the attacking third but only to take a shot or two from an angle. Credit must go to the Benfica defense for not leaving there zone and creating another oppertunity like the first goal where a deft one touch pass to the center of a field left an easy finish for Zarynov coming from his attacking mid field spot. All in all not a bad game and one they can learn to over come and attain 3 points in similar matches down the road. However this is the third game in a row where the Lightblues have conceded one goal or less and Bruno Alves had a lot to say about that on this night. Providing cover when it was needed and tackling hard and fair to keep the opposition at bay after there early goal.

Week 2 Recap and Week 3 Preview
Zenit ended the week with two draws. Going into the week you could have said that that was a fair result as they sat directly in the middle of either club all on 3 points. The two points leaves them in 5th one spot behind Benefica on GD and a point behind Galatasaray, who are the light blues only blemish, and Dortmund who they get a crack at this coming week. Dortmund and Galatasaray both have a game in hand however.
Now for the week ahead the game that stands out is Dortmund. This one may have promotion race repercussions as Dortmund must face the league leaders and if Zenit can find a way to win Dortmund can realistically stay at 6. Zenit's other opponent is the currently low flying Bordeaux, the french club have yet to pick up a point but Zenit will not take the visitors lightly and will try to avoid the shock as they look at what could be a crucial early week with 6 points shooting them firmly into the promotion picture.

Week 3 Mid-Week: Zenit Miss Chance to Put Away Dortmund
Zenit and Dortmund played to a scoreless draw. Zenit had arguably the better chances with multiple point blank headers and a beautiful cut back that was saved yet again by the Dortmund keeper. Both teams chances we're few and far in between and neither could capitalize. Zenit's defense was once again strong with a center back yet again picking up a man of the match award.
